Still Running Windows 7? Prepare for Some New Year Nagging!

It’s a subject we’ve covered before, and now that the date for end of life on this outdated OS is looming, Windows 7 users can look forward to a new, more aggressive warning from Microsoft in the New Year.

On the 15 th January (the day after the dreaded EOL deadline), those still running Windows 7 can expect full-screen warnings that they will no longer receive free security updates for their OS. The push notification from Microsoft will explicitly warn users: "Your Windows 7 PC is out of support." offering three options – “Remind me later”, “Learn more” or “Don't remind me again”. Only if the latter is selected will these reminders cease.

The warning will reiterate the PC’s vulnerability to malware and viruses, caused by no security updates, no software updates and no tech support, stating that: "Microsoft strongly recommends using Windows 10 on a new PC for the latest security features and protection against malicious software."

Microsoft began warning Pro users periodically (provided they were not domain- joined) via a popup in October, but this new full-screen advice is embedded in the monthly rollup KB4530734, which Microsoft made available to Windows 7 SP1 users on 10 th December as part of its Patch Tuesday set of updates.
